Woodle Tree 2: Deluxe - Switch Review (Quick)
The Wood Lands are in danger and it is up to the adorable Woodle to save it! In this 3D platformer, Woodle Tree 2: Deluxe has you freely exploring an open sandbox world that contains eight separately-themed areas and restoring the Water Tears. With great 3D platformers being a dime a dozen, it begs to question which category Woodle Tree 2 falls under.
Good
- Smooth controls and platforming
- Wide open spaces that makes it easy for camera movement
- Freedom of exploration
- Gameplay that’s easy to digest
- Woodle’s leaf makes for a lot of unique abilities
- Subtle HD Rumble effects that lets the player know when they’re close to a Water Tear
- Quick fast travel to previously discovered checkpoints from the pause menu
- No load times as each area is made up of one open world
- Colourful environments and charming character personalities.

Bad
- Occassional frame rate dips
- Lacks complexity in gameplay, plot and depth
- Hit detection with enemies feels empty and inaccurate
- Can’t feel HD Rumble effects on Switch Lite or non rumble controller, meaning that you won’t have the clues that let you know if you’re close to a Water Tear
- Had the odd moment or two where I glitched and fell through a platform
- Co-op was awkward as only player one can control the camera; no split screen option
- Frame rate dips in co-op mode and the game crashed within five minutes
- Rare baron areas that seem incomplete.
Final Score: 65%
With its colourful aesthetics and charming personality, Woodle Tree 2: Deluxe is a delightful adventure to embark on. However, the game certainly could have used a few more months in the oven to smoothen out its frame rate issues and add more depth and variety to the world. The game is a fun 3D platformer on a budget, but it pales in comparison to the Super Mario and Ratchet and Clank greats of the genre.
